we are all connected!

even though i live so close, i think the last time i was at the philadelphia museum of art was about four years ago. i don't think i fully appreciated anything then, and certainly not when i was even younger. i don't know why - lately i've had this urgent desire to go exploring the museum once again, and i finally had the chance today...

IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!

everything just blew me away - it's so amazing to see things from as far back as the 7th century. it's so hard to wrap your head around people having lived so long ago. when you read things in history books about the different time periods, it's very interesting but at the same time it almost kind of feels more like stories than actual facts. but to see actual artifacts from those times... it's indescribable. and these are some very intricate and detailed pieces! it blows my mind!

the paintings were amazing, but what really astonished me were the furniture pieces from all over the world, all older than 100 years old. think about it: these are all pieces someone somewhere at some point in time actually used every day. there were these ornate bed frames from china that were so beautiful. someone a long time ago in china had slept on it every day, made love on it, and maybe even died on it. i wanted so badly to touch them! to feel connected to the unknown persons to whom the furnitures had at one point belonged to. (shhh: i touched a painting in one of the european art rooms! haha! suck it stupid museum security guards! lol. i will touch the furniture next time....)

i loved the french decorative art, and i really enjoyed the dutch paintings. i was surprised by how much i found the arms and armors section fascinating. i kept looking really close to the edge of the blades to see if i could spot dried blood stains (lol even though that would be most unlikely). i loved the delicate prayer and hymnal books from the middle ages.

anyways i had so much more to say but i started watching the mtv movie awards and now i'm totally distracted haha. i just had to describe feeling so connected to world history today. being a complete idiot i left both my camera and my phone at home. but all was well. i wish i was a museum curator. or one of those professional museum thieves haha. bye.
