i remember watching charlie chaplin's the kid for the first time in one of my humanities classes at BU and being very touched by it. before i actually learned about chaplin, he just seemed like a really creepy old guy getting off on being weird. kind of brutal but true... coming from a generation desensitized by all the action, violence, and sex we're bombarded with through the media, i know i wouldn't have actively sought out these black and white silent films on my own. i guess there is something to be said for higher education afterall :P
